The Most Venerable Thach Tuor


Former Secretary General of Preah Trapeang Buddhist Provincial Headquarters

Former English Professor of Son Vorng College in Kampuchea Krom

Arrested, imprisoned, and severely tortured by the communist Vietnamese authorities in the 1980s and
released in 1988. After the release, he fled for safety to Cambodia and re-entered Buddhist monkhood

ever since until his final breath on this earth on Sunday February 17, B.E.2551/ C.E.2008 local time in Cambodia at 2:10am at Calmette Hospital.

The venerable was the closest associate of heroic Buddhist Bhikkhu Ghanda Dhammo Kim Toc Chon.

The venerable served his country and religion bravely.

Venerable Thach Tuor was 70 years old.

Born in Preah Trapeang province, Kampuchea Krom (formerly part of Cambodia).

The Most Venerable Sovannapanno Thach Suon


Abbot Wat Kampuchea Krom, Nokesville, Virginia United States, age 80, April 21, B.E.2472/C.E.1928 - January 26, B.E.2551/C.E.2008 year of the Boar

Born in Slaa Paang village, Rumduol commune, Thkov district, Preah Trapeang province, Kampuchea Krom (formerly part of Cambodia)

Advisor (or Preah Balat Kana) to Preah Trapeang Buddhist provincial headquarters, Kampuchea Krom

Buddhist master

Vipassana (meditation) teacher

His holy body repatriated (transported back) to Kampuchea Krom (presently part of Vietnam). The ruling communist Vietnamese permit the indigenous Khmer people to organize a 3-day funeral and memorial service for the venerable.

Khmer Buddhist tradition has no fixed period of mourning for the loss.
